HUTCHINSON -- Larry Ray Sams, 65, Hutchinson, died Saturday, Dec 8, 2001.

Mr. Sams was born Nov. 23, 1936 in Simpson. He was a plant manager at Collins Professional Cars, Hutchinson.

Survivors include his wife, Janis O. of the home, a son, Scott A. of Winder, Ga,; three daughters, Jo Lynn Frenya of Rome, Ga., Larae J. Sams of Blue Springs, Mo., and Dawn D. Crimmins of Lee's Summit.



LARRY RAY SAMS

Larry Ray Sams, son of Oran Elmer and Ethel Helen (Thompson) Sams, was born November 23, 1936, in Simpson, Kansas. He spent his childhood years in Simpson and graduated from Simpson High School. He the moved to McPherson to attend McPherson College, where he went on to receive a second Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering at Kansas State University.

On August 6, 1960, Larry married Janis O. Emswiler at the Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend, Kansas. The union was blessed with four children, Scott, Jo Lynn, Larae, and Dawn.

Larry was an industrial engineer, plant manager, and vice-president of several companies in Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, and Georgia. The last three companies he worked for were Johns Manville in McPherson and Winder, Georgia, Collins Inc. Mobile Tech Division in Hutchinson, and most recently, Collins Professional Cars in Hutchinson.

Although an arm injury in college put a halt to Larry's dream of becoming a professional baseball pitcher, Larry's involvement with the sport continued. He coached and refereed softball and baseball for many years and touched many lives. It would be hard to find anyone who was more dedicated to youth an women's sports programs than Larry.

Larry was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge #982, both of Hutchinson. Larry contributed much time and delighted in helping with the youth in his church. Larry was also a former member of the Jaycees.

Larry entered peacefully into eternal rest after a short bout with brain cancer on Saturday evening, December 8, 2001, at his home. He was sixty-five.

Survivors include: his wife, Janis, of Hutchinson, KS; a son, Scott A. Sams and his wife, Jennifer, of Winder, GA; three daughters, Jo Lynn Frenya of Rome, GA, Larae J. Sams of Blue Springs, MO, and Dawn D. Crimmins and her husband Tod, of Lee's Simmit, MO; parents, Oran and Helen Sams of Glasco, KS; a brother, Ronald Duane Sams and his wife, Suzanne, of Millsboro, DE; six grandchildren, one niece, two nephews, and their families.
